The staff at WHF have a broad background of experience in horse care ranging from the rehabilitation of the neglected horse, toning and training the equine athlete, the preparation, breeding and raising of some of the best representatives in North America of our unique breeds of horses, and providing for the aged friend's special needs. You can rest assured that your special equine will be in good hands and treated as part of the family at the WHF. WHF is conveniently only 3 miles away from a state of the art veterinary facility in case of an emergency.
Boarding...
WHF offers a limited number of stalls to boarders with your horse's health and well being as our top priority. Horses are fed at least twice daily, supplemented if needed, always provided with clean water, turned out daily (kept inside in inclement weather), stalls looked after daily, and health is monitored both day and night. Pasture board is also available.
Board rates: Full board $265 + tax, Pasture board $205 + tax
Lessons... WHF believes in training riders to enjoy their horses and to do their horses well by ensuring the horse's long term soundness and longevity as a result of proper training methods. Rider will learn to use the 'classical' methods that have stood the test of time, being used over many centuries by the greatest riders all over the world. We want both horse and rider to end each session with a good feeling so that both remain fresh and ready for the next session. We believe that a happy horse is always willing to work for it's rider, and a happy rider has a willing horse. Lessons range from 45 minutes to 1 hour at a rate of $35/session. Private lessons only. Students must be at least 9 years of age.
Training... A limited number of horses will be accepted into the WHF training program. Each horse is brought along at a rate that is determined by the horse's physical fitness, progress, and natural athletic ability. There is no 'cookie cutter' schedule that works for every horse as each horse is an individual. The trainer at WHF is classically trained, having learned from trainers from the Spanish Riding School in Austria, and continues to broaden her education by riding in clinics throughout the year. You can expect your horse to be ridden a minimum of 5 times per week. Training rates are $450/month (board not included).
Clinics... The WHF philosophy is based on the classical methodology of dressage. We feel that in today's fast paced world riders will often overlook what is best for the horse and try to take dead end shortcuts. It is our feeling that we must make available only the most proper and correct training available. The WHF feels privileged to bring to the Eastern states the trainers and clinicians from the Spanish Riding School at least once a year. The clinicians that we choose speak English fluently and are patient, yet very effective in working with all riders. Riders are most welcome to bring their horses for one or more riding sessions at our clinics. Auditors are also welcome. Rates and schedules will be posted as they become available.
Breeding... The WHF specializes in breeding Lipizzaner horses of the highest quality available in North America, combining both the best domestic bloodlines with rare and valuable lines imported from Austria. We also breed FPZV (German registered) Friesian horses to create a horse well suited to work under saddle. All of our horses and their offspring are superior athletes, excelling in both the dressage ring and the breeding shed. Waltz on over to our 'horses' section to see what we have available. All of our stallions are available via fresh cooled semen. You may choose your favorite stallion to match your mare, purchase a healthy athletic foal, or choose a 'custom' breeding from the roster of our broodmares (email for availability).
